One of Arni’s friends from his hometown in Germany, Maren, along with her boyfriend Christian were on a three week tour in the US. They landed in Denver, stopped by many of the National Parks, drove over to LA and meandered their way up the PCH and spent their last two days in San Francisco before flying back to Frankfurt.
It was Maren’s first time to America and I believe Christian’s first time in these parts of the states. We met up with them after their first full day in the city for dinner. We wanted to take them around the city the next day by car and asked them what they wanted us to show them.
They had already done most of the major touristy things in San Francisco–window shopping in Union Square, riding the cable car, walked around Fisherman’s Wharf, etc, so their only request was to see the Golden Gate Bridge.
The next day, we honored their request and took them to three different vantage points to see the bridge and showed them a little more around the city and surrounding areas.
After three weeks of either her taking pictures of him, him taking pictures of her, asking some random stranger to take a picture of both of them, or using the self-timer on their camera, they were happy to fit in a photo session during the mini sight-seeing tour.
Hanging out with them was so much fun and we were bummed just as much as they were that their trip was coming to an end.
Arni and I had a really fun time hanging out with them. It felt almost like a mini-vacation for us, too. Hopefully the next time we visit Germany, we can meet up with them.
